CMWU and Deir al-Balah Municipality Connect a Private Well to Strengthen Water Supplies in the City
In a step aimed at easing the water scarcity crisis facing Deir al-Balah city, central Gaza Strip, CMWU, in cooperation with Deir al-Balah Municipality, connected a private-sector water well to the public water network in the Al-Tarzi area of the city.
This comes as part of intensive efforts to find alternative water sources amid the worsening water crisis, particularly after the eastern wells in the city went out of service as a result of Israeli military operations, in addition to the cutoff of Mekorot water since last January, and the shutdown of the electricity line feeding the South desalination plant, which led to a significant decline in the quantities of water available to citizens.
The new well has a capacity of about 60 cubic meters per hour, and a dedicated power generator was supplied to ensure its regular and sustainable operation, contributing to strengthening the quantities of water distributed to citizens, and reducing long interruption periods.
The water utility affirmed that this intervention is part of an expanded emergency plan being implemented in cooperation with Deir al-Balah Municipality and partner institutions, noting that current conditions require finding alternative and innovative solutions to ensure the minimum level of essential services, foremost among them water.
