Urgent Maintenance Begins on the Mekorot Water Line Feeding Khan Younis Governorate Funded by Oxfam
CMWU, in cooperation with the Palestinian Water Authority and funded by Oxfam, began this morning carrying out urgent maintenance works on the Mekorot water line feeding Khan Younis Governorate, after it sustained severe damage as a result of continued Israeli bombardment and military operations in the area.
This step comes as part of efforts to ensure the continuity of essential water services, particularly amid the severe population overcrowding in the western areas of the governorate, which have become a refuge for thousands of displaced persons.
The Mekorot line is one of the most important water sources in Khan Younis, forming a vital artery for securing drinking water for residents, particularly as the humanitarian crisis escalates and infrastructure deteriorates as a result of the continuing aggression.
The water utility affirmed that the work is being carried out under extremely complex field conditions, aiming to rehabilitate the damaged line and ensure water flows to the most affected population centers.
The Utility valued the support provided by Oxfam and the Water Authority, calling for the continuation of international efforts to support water projects and essential services in the Gaza Strip, amid the worsening humanitarian situation.
