At the invitation of the Ministry of Local Government, CMWU participated in an evaluation meeting on the overall interventions carried out by the Utility and the municipalities during the recent stormy wave (8-10) January, in order to protect residents' lives and property from the risks of flooding, particularly as the rainfall rate exceeded expectations, in addition to the Israeli side opening water dams and large quantities of water rushing towards the Gaza Strip's wadis.

The meeting was attended, in addition to the Deputy Minister of Local Government and the Ministry's staff, by CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq and the mayors of the major municipalities (Gaza, Jabalia, Deir al-Balah, Khan Younis, Rafah), with Eng. Shoblaq presenting during the meeting a report on the overall interventions carried out by the Utility in various areas of the Strip, the challenges facing the Utility's and municipalities' crews, in addition to the emergency projects agreed upon with some international institutions working in the water sector, which are expected to lead to further improvement in the Utility's and municipalities' readiness to deal with the current and coming winter seasons.

At the end of the meeting, everyone affirmed their satisfaction with the development in the Utility's readiness and its role, in cooperation with the municipalities, in the current winter season, and everyone looked forward to moving from the stage of rescue from flooding to investment in the rainwater sector, by proposing some important projects in various areas, in order to reach a stage of collecting and filtering rainwater to improve the quality of the groundwater aquifer.
