CMWU, funded by UNICEF, continues drilling and rehabilitating water wells in Netzarim and the Mawasi areas of Rafah and Khan Younis to strengthen water sources for displaced persons.
CMWU crews continue to implement the project to rehabilitate and construct water wells in the Gaza Strip, funded by UNICEF, as part of the Utility's ongoing efforts to strengthen water services and provide safe water sources for residents and displaced persons across the various areas of the Gaza Strip.
The project targets areas suffering from an acute shortage of water supply and experiencing high population density and large numbers of displaced persons, particularly in the Al-Iqlimi area, Well (19), and the Egyptian Camp in Netzarim, in addition to a number of displacement camps in the Mawasi areas of Rafah and Khan Younis, contributing to improving residents' and displaced persons' access to safe water and easing the severity of the water crisis.
The project includes drilling new water wells, and maintaining and rehabilitating a number of existing wells with varying production capacities, alongside carrying out all the necessary electromechanical works, ensuring improved operational efficiency of the wells and the sustainability of water services in the target areas.
Among the works completed so far:
- Drilling a new water well in the Netzarim area, Egyptian Camp No. (18).
- Rehabilitation and maintenance of an existing water well in the Netzarim area, Egyptian Camp.
- Drilling a new water well in the Rafah Mawasi area, Al-Nakheel Camp (2).
- Drilling a new water well in the Rafah Mawasi area, Al-Majd Camp (2).
- Drilling a new water well in the Rafah Mawasi area, Ajyal Camp (2).
Work is also continuing to complete the project, including:
- Constructing a new water well in Al-Burj Camp in the Rafah Mawasi area.
- Constructing a new water well in Al-Hayat Camp in the Rafah Mawasi area.
- Constructing two new wells in the Khan Younis Mawasi area.
This project is being implemented as part of the ongoing partnership between CMWU and UNICEF, aiming to strengthen the capacity of water facilities to respond to growing humanitarian needs, improve the continuity of water services, and ensure the provision of safe water sources in the most needy areas, particularly given the current humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip.
