CMWU, in partnership with EcoPeace, put a new water well into operation in Hittin camp, Rafah, with a 1,300-meter network, serving over 5,000 displaced persons.
In partnership with EcoPeace Middle East, CMWU, in cooperation with Rafah Municipality, put a new water well into operation in Hittin camp in the Maslakh square area, with a production capacity of 13 cubic meters per hour, alongside the construction of a 1,300-meter water network to supply the camp and neighboring camps, helping to improve water access for more than 5,000 displaced persons.
This project comes at a time when the area is suffering from an acute water shortage as a result of intense waves of displacement, coinciding with rising temperatures during the summer, which has increased demand for water and the daily needs of displaced families.
CMWU affirmed that the project is part of its ongoing efforts, in cooperation with its partners, to strengthen the reach of water services to shelter centers and displacement camps, and to ease the suffering of citizens amid the difficult humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip.
It is worth noting that the water sector faces major challenges as a result of the continued ban on bringing in oils and spare parts needed to operate generators, pumps, and water wells, which directly affects the ability of service institutions to operate water facilities and sustain service delivery to citizens, and compounds the suffering of displaced persons who depend on these sources to meet their basic water needs.
CMWU valued its partnership with EcoPeace Middle East, affirming that this cooperation contributes to strengthening efforts to provide water and improve its reach to thousands of displaced persons, and reflects the importance of effective partnerships in supporting the water sector and easing the severity of the humanitarian crisis, calling for facilitating the entry of the supplies necessary to ensure the continuity of operating water facilities and essential services.
