CMWU connected a 250 KVA generator from Egypt to the sewage treatment plant in Rafah, preventing overflow toward the Egyptian border.
CMWU successfully completed connecting a 250 KVA electric generator at the sewage treatment plant in Rafah, after it was supplied by the Egyptian authorities, enabling the restoration of the pumping system for treated water toward the coastal sea outlet, and stopping the flow of sewage toward the Egyptian border, in addition to the environmental and health hazard that could have occurred around the tents of displaced persons in the area near the Philadelphi corridor on the Palestinian-Egyptian border. This comes amid the continued significant efforts made and still being made by CMWU, represented by approaching its partners among international partner institutions such as UNICEF and the Red Cross, to purchase and supply generators and electromechanical spare parts for water and sanitation facilities, in order to continue supplying residents with drinking water services and collecting and treating sewage, particularly in the Rafah area, to prevent sewage overflow, and amid the Israeli occupation's continued refusal to respond to international institutions' requests to allow the entry of these generators and their spare parts. CMWU had announced an urgent appeal for help to international institutions to pressure the Israeli occupation to allow the entry of the generators, particularly after expectations approached that many generators would stop operating, most importantly the Tel Al-Sultan sewage treatment plant, and sewage flowing toward the tents of displaced residents and the Egyptian border. After the generator stopped and sewage began overflowing outside the boundaries of the sanitation station and reaching the Egyptian border and displaced persons' tents, contact was made with the Egyptian side, which took the initiative to bring in the electric generator.
