CMWU Carries Out Emergency Maintenance on a Number of Electric Power Generators for Water and Sanitation Facilities

CMWU carried out maintenance on a number of electric power generators for water and sanitation facilities in the central and southern governorates of the Gaza Strip, in partnership with and funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross, and by contracting with a local contractor, the Abu Jihad Yassin Electric Generators Company.
The works included maintaining and rehabilitating these generators and replacing their damaged parts, in order to repair them so they operate as required, particularly amid the continuing Israeli war and the electricity cutoff since the start of the war, which has led to a main reliance on these generators to operate the facilities, despite their deterioration as a result of their continuous operation since the start of the Israeli war.
It is worth noting that CMWU issued an appeal for help warning of the danger of the Israeli occupation not allowing the entry of electric power generators and the spare parts needed for them, particularly after numerous alerts were received about some generators ceasing operation as a result of operating above their operational capacity for long hours and the lack of the spare parts needed for their routine and emergency maintenance, in addition to the destruction of many of them as a result of continued Israeli bombardment.
The shutdown of electric power generators leads to the shutdown of these facilities and worsens the existing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and the complete collapse of water and sanitation services and the cutoff of water supplies to residents, in addition to sewage overflow in the streets and displacement areas as a result of the shutdown of sewage pumping stations, causing health and environmental hazards.
