CMWU, funded by ANERA, installed five 20-cubic-meter water tanks at shelter sites in the south of the Strip, at a cost of 126,000 euros.
CMWU implemented a project to supply and install galvanized steel water tanks with a capacity of 20 cubic meters each, five tanks in total, at a total cost of 126,000 euros, funded by ANERA, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen water sources and improve the continuity of supply in shelter areas and population centers in the south of the Gaza Strip.
The project aims to increase water storage capacity at a number of vital sites experiencing high population density as a result of displacement, ensuring regular service and meeting the daily needs of citizens and service institutions.
Three tanks with their accompanying canopies have been installed so far out of the five targeted tanks, at the following sites:
First site: Inside the Al-Qadisiya camps complex west of the Taiba towers in Khan Younis Mawasi, where the tank serves about 15,000 displaced persons, in addition to supporting a food distribution point within the area, strengthening the stability of water supply in one of the largest shelter concentrations.
Second site: Inside the campus of the Applied College in the Khan Younis Mawasi area, where the tank is expected to serve about 3,500 beneficiaries, including about 1,500 displaced persons residing in the area, in addition to students regularly attending in-person classes, with a daily average ranging between 500 and 700 students from the Applied College and the Islamic University, as well as serving neighboring camps, including the Egyptian camp.
Third site: Inside a water desalination point operated by Medecins Sans Frontieres, which receives displaced persons from several nearby and distant camps. About 3,000 individuals benefit from the station, in addition to Al-Mutamayyizoun School and the Medecins Sans Frontieres clinic. The tank was installed at this site to address the previous limited storage capacity, which had affected the continuity of the desalination plant's operation.
The fourth site is located within the Rafah services area next to the temporary Rafah Municipality headquarters, where it will serve the Qatari camp and Al-Ikhlas camp, benefiting about 3,000 people.
This project is part of CMWU's efforts aimed at strengthening citizens' resilience and improving the level of essential services, particularly given the exceptional challenges facing the areas in the south of the Strip, by providing sustainable infrastructure that helps ensure water reaches the most needy groups safely and regularly.
