Signing a funding agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) worth half a million dollars to develop water networks in Rafah, Al-Shawka, and Abasan Al-Kabira, serving about 40,000 residents.
Signing a Package of Projects between CMWU and the Japan International Cooperation Agency
Gaza - CMWU:
CMWU and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a funding agreement for a package of projects to strengthen and develop water networks in parts of Khan Younis and Rafah governorates in the south of the Gaza Strip, contributing to improving water services for about 40,000 residents in the targeted areas.
The agreement, funded by the Japanese government with about half a million dollars, was signed between the Utility's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq and the representative of the Japanese agency in Gaza Eng. Saher Younis, in the presence of Japanese and local consultants and a number of contractors and representatives of the municipalities benefiting from the projects to be implemented over the coming months.
The package includes three projects involving developing water networks and replacing damaged networks in both Rafah city and Al-Shawka village in Rafah governorate, in addition to the town of Abasan Al-Kabira east of Khan Younis governorate in the south of the Gaza Strip, with the Utility implementing the project through local contractors and under the supervision of the Japanese consultant (NJS) and the local consultant (EMCC).
Eng. Shoblaq praised the continuous Japanese support for water projects in Palestine and in the Gaza Strip in particular over the coming years and its contribution to improving the water services provided to residents amid the need to develop water facilities in the Strip, and expressed his hope for the continuation of international support for water and sanitation projects to confront the current crisis.
For his part, Eng. Younis spoke about the Japanese agency's appreciation for its relationship with the Utility and with those overseeing the water sector in Palestine, affirming that the agency will continue to provide support for the benefit of the Strip's residents in order to improve their humanitarian conditions, especially in projects related to water and sanitation to raise the capacity of service facilities in this regard.
