CMWU began work on implementing solar power systems to operate the targeted sewage pumping stations in the Gaza Strip, as part of the project to reduce public health risks and environmental pollution, supported by the Humanitarian Fund in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and implemented by the Palestinian Hydrology Group in partnership with CMWU, with the project's total cost being $317,000.
The project includes installing a solar power system at 6 sewage stations distributed across several areas in the Gaza Strip, including Al-Zahra, Nuseirat, Umm Al-Nasr, Wadi Gaza, and Batn Al-Sameen stations in Khan Younis, in addition to the UNDP station in Rafah, with the number of beneficiaries from the project estimated at 60,000 people.
It is worth noting that CMWU is currently working on implementing a package of solar power system projects at water and sanitation facilities, in cooperation with the Water Authority and partner institutions.
