CMWU, in cooperation with the Electricity Company and funded by the Kuwait Fund for Development through the Islamic Development Bank, began implementing the project to extend the electricity line feeding the seawater desalination plant for Gaza city, at a total cost of about $639,000, in order to ensure connecting the plant to the electricity grid according to the specifications required by the Gaza Electricity Company, which in turn will ensure the continuation of the plant's operation at full capacity, reaching its maximum production capacity of 10,000 cubic meters daily, and providing water suitable for drinking for about 250,000 residents of Gaza city.
This project is expected to be completed at the start of 2020.
