CMWU crews, in cooperation with Deir al-Balah Municipality and in partnership with UNICEF, carried out emergency maintenance work on the main water transmission line in Deir al-Balah city, which is the main artery of the city's water supply system and feeds most of its areas and neighborhoods.
The works included maintaining the main line to strengthen the efficiency of water pumping and ensure its continued reach to citizens, particularly given current conditions and increased water needs with the onset of summer.
This water transmission line is the main artery of the water supply system in Deir al-Balah city, fed by the Mekorot line, water from the seawater desalination plant in the south of the Gaza Strip, in addition to water from various wells, after which the water is directed through the network to the target areas across the city.
The line serves more than 200,000 people in all areas of Deir al-Balah, pumping about 14,000 cubic meters of water daily, making it one of the most important vital lines for ensuring the continuity of service to residents.
This comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the continuity of water services at the minimum possible level, amid the difficult conditions and major challenges facing the water sector, contributing to strengthening citizens' resilience and easing their daily suffering.
It is worth noting that CMWU crews continue to respond to the maintenance and operation needs of the Gaza Strip's municipalities with the resources available, amid current conditions that pose great difficulty in securing the spare parts and materials needed for maintenance work, which threatens the continuity of operating water and sanitation facilities and increases the challenges facing the essential services sector.
