The Water Authority and CMWU Sign an Agreement to Manage and Operate the Seawater Desalination Plants

As part of the joint cooperation and strengthening integrated management that is environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable between the Palestinian Water Authority and CMWU, an agreement was signed today to manage and operate the seawater desalination plants, at CMWU's main headquarters in Al-Zahra city, south of Gaza city.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Palestinian Water Authority by Minister Eng. Mazen Ghanem, Chairman of the Water Authority, and on behalf of CMWU by Eng. Monther Shoblaq, the Utility's Director-General, on behalf of the Chairman of the Utility's Board of Directors Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan.
The agreement includes CMWU managing and operating the seawater desalination plants owned by the Palestinian Water Authority, as well as managing and distributing water to the beneficiary bodies, until a bulk water supply department is established and activated, which will be the nucleus for establishing the National Water Company in accordance with Decree-Law No. 14 of 2014.
It is worth noting that the agreement included the Gaza desalination plant with a production capacity of 10,000 cubic meters/day, the Deir al-Balah desalination plant with a production capacity of 6,000 cubic meters/day, and the southern desalination plant with a capacity of 6,000 cubic meters/day, currently being expanded to 20,000 cubic meters/day.
