A CMWU Delegation Congratulates the Ministry of Local Government's Undersecretary on His New Position

A delegation from CMWU visited the Ministry of Local Government's Undersecretary Eng. Ahmed Abu Ras, to congratulate him on his new position, and also to discuss joint cooperation in a way that strengthens the improvement and development of the water and sanitation services provided to residents.
The delegation included CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq, his Deputy for Planning and Projects Affairs Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, Deputy Director-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mr. Mamdouh Al-Ghazali, and KfW Projects Manager at CMWU Eng. Fareed Ashour, and they were received by the Director-General of Projects and GIS Eng. Zuhdi Al-Ghariz and Deputy Director-General of Projects Eng. Rami Al-Masri.
The attendees addressed a number of issues, foremost among them working to improve the basic services for residents in the water and sanitation sectors, CMWU's institutional development program, and completing the administrative, technical, and financial transfer procedures for the water and sanitation departments from the municipalities to CMWU, in light of the decision taken by the Ministry of Local Government in agreement and consultation with the municipalities of the Gaza Strip in favor of CMWU, and through the consulting work contract funded by AFD through the Palestinian Water Authority, expected to begin activities during the coming December.
Some of the challenges and obstacles hindering the delivery of services to residents amid the current conditions and scarce capabilities were also addressed.
Eng. Monther Shoblaq briefed the Ministry's Undersecretary on the most important strategic projects managed by the Utility, foremost among them the sewage treatment plant in Khan Younis and the Central Sewage Treatment Plant for Gaza, as well as the desalination plants in Gaza and Deir al-Balah, and the mechanisms for managing these important facilities and the need to combine all efforts by the Ministry of Local Government, the municipalities, and the Utility to raise the level of services provided to residents were addressed.
In turn, Eng. Ahmed Abu Ras praised the visit of CMWU's delegation and their great role in the water and sanitation sector and their support for the municipalities in maintenance and development works, particularly amid the current conditions that have worsened due to the coronavirus pandemic, promising to adopt development plans at the municipalities in order to improve and upgrade the services provided to residents, and affirming the need to adopt developmental and development projects that serve all areas of the Gaza Strip, so that we reach a point where all governorates of the Gaza Strip are covered with drinking water services and sanitation services, in addition to increasing the pace of joint cooperation in a way that serves achieving the public interest.
