CMWU received, for the first time since the start of the war, a shipment of chlorine and chemicals from UNICEF after its stock was completely depleted.
For the first time since the start of the war on Gaza, CMWU today received, at its warehouses at the South seawater desalination plant, quantities of water chlorination and disinfection solution from UNICEF, in addition to the chemicals needed to operate desalination plants.
It is worth noting that the stock of drinking water chlorination and disinfection solutions had been completely depleted for months across all water well facilities, pumping stations, and desalination facilities, putting the water supply system across the various areas of the Gaza Strip within the circle of health risks and unprecedented contamination levels, amid the massive destruction of water and sanitation infrastructure, particularly regarding transmission and distribution networks.
In this regard, the water utility has completed the arrangements to immediately begin distributing sodium hypochlorite solution to the various water production and pumping facilities according to the coordinated need schedule for each facility, to reactivate the chlorine injection system into the water before pumping it through the water distribution networks in accordance with recommended operational and technical standards, protecting the water supply system from any contamination risks and easing the pressure on public health in the various population centers and shelter and displacement centers.
