CMWU Launches World Water Day Activities
CMWU and the Palestinian Water Authority launched a series of activities and events continuing for a month, as World Water Day, which falls on March 22nd of every year, approaches. The activities began today, March 3rd, with a scout march for students, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and with the participation of Eng. Monther Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General, and with support from the Austrian Development Agency.
The scout march set off from the Al-Azhar University junction heading to the UN headquarters in Gaza, where the participants raised banners carrying slogans about the right to water for future generations and calling for water conservation.
The activities scheduled for World Water Day during the current month vary to include numerous media and awareness activities in partnership with numerous local institutions, with efforts intensifying to convey a message to the world and the local community about the state the water situation in the Gaza Strip has reached, and to point to the efforts made by workers in the water sector to provide water appropriately to residents despite the challenges and difficulties hindering development projects and programs, foremost among these obstacles the siege the Gaza Strip suffers from.
Simultaneously, the Water Month activities began today with the implementation of numerous awareness meetings in various areas of the Gaza Strip, targeting different groups of women, men, and children, and these meetings will continue throughout the month.
The activities also included several World Water Day celebrations in schools in the Gaza Strip and several local institutions, and painting murals expressing the role of workers in the water sector, and groups of workers in the water sector will be honored by the institutions they work for in various celebrations.
