CMWU Completes Maintenance of the East Abu Shurkh Well in Jabalia with Support from UNICEF
CMWU, in cooperation with Jabalia Municipality and with support from UNICEF, completed maintenance works on the East Abu Shurkh well in Jabalia city, north of the Gaza Strip, after it sustained severe damage as a result of Israeli bombardment.
The well produces about 145 cubic meters per hour, and serves about 25,000 people, making its operation an important step in improving water service for residents. A new electric generator was also supplied to operate the well, funded by UNICEF, ensuring the continuity of its operation and the uninterrupted supply of water.
This comes as part of the UNICEF-funded water well repair project in Gaza City and North Governorate, aimed at gradually rehabilitating water sources and improving service for residents.
The well has been operated and water is now actually being pumped into the network. During field follow-up, it was found that some of the networks in the areas fed by the well had sustained damage, and technical crews have begun assessing the damage in preparation for repairing it and restoring water service to residents as soon as possible.
