CMWU Receives a Delegation from the United Nations in Gaza
CMWU received a high-level delegation from the United Nations headed by Mr. Robert Piper, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and UN Special Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Development Activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The delegation was received at the site of the Al-Muntar well and reservoir east of Gaza city, with the visit aiming to inform the delegation about one of the projects implemented through the reconstruction plan in the Gaza Strip, namely constructing the Al-Muntar well and reservoir.
Eng. Fareed Ashour, Director of the Treatment Project, affirmed the importance of these projects for restoring normal life to the Strip's residents before the last war on Gaza and covering the large deficit in water resources, noting that this project serves about 600 thousand residents of Gaza city.
Ashour explained that there are obstacles facing reconstruction, represented in the Israeli side not allowing the entry of all the materials necessary for infrastructure, despite all the necessary coordination.
He called on the United Nations to support all national institutions, such as CMWU and the local municipalities, so they can continue providing all their services well to residents, especially after the last war and the Israeli siege on the Strip.
At the end of the visit, Ashour thanked the United Nations and all donors for their efforts towards reconstruction and implementing the projects that had been planned, and also called on the United Nations to pressure the Israeli side to facilitate the process of bringing in the materials necessary to implement the Gaza Strip's reconstruction projects.
