CMWU Receives a Joint Delegation from the European Union and the German Development Bank KfW

As part of CMWU's plan related to benefiting from rainwater and protecting residents and their property from the risks of rainwater flooding, CMWU received a joint technical delegation from the European Union and the German Development Bank KfW, at its main headquarters in Al-Zahra city, central Gaza Strip.
The meeting was attended by CMWU's Executive Director Eng. Monther Shoblaq, the Director of the Central Gaza Sanitation Project Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, and CMWU's technical staff, and the visiting delegation included the Technical Director of Projects at the German Development Bank Ms. Anja Volk, Eng. Wadah Al-Hamdallah, Deputy Director of the KfW office, and Ms. Ivanka Todorova, Water and Sanitation Program Manager at the European Union.
In turn, Eng. Monther Shoblaq welcomed the visiting delegation, expressing his great gratitude for the support provided by the European Union and the German Development Bank, and expressing his hope that this support would continue in order to continue the process of upgrading and developing the water and sanitation services provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
The meeting included a discussion of a package of rainwater project proposals to be implemented during the coming phase in various parts of the Gaza Strip, in order to benefit from rainwater and spare the residents of the targeted areas the risks of flooding during winter seasons. The meeting also reviewed the progress of the operation of the treatment plant east of Al-Bureij and the extent of the commitment of the benefiting municipalities to sharing the plant's operating expenses according to the funding agreement, in addition to the efforts made by CMWU to improve the water and sanitation services provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip, the challenges it faces, and its needs of priority projects to continue improving its services in cooperation with the municipalities of the Gaza Strip.
On the other hand, in a separate meeting, the latest developments related to the Khan Younis treatment plant and the proposed projects to serve the residents of the governorate were discussed, particularly regarding constructing a sewage collection system for the residents of east of the governorate, which includes constructing sewage pumping stations, transmission lines, and machinery, and the needs for closing the temporary treatment plant in the Al-Mawasi area west of the governorate.
