A delegation from GIZ visits CMWU and reviews the Sheikh Radwan reservoir and Al-Muntar reservoir reconstruction projects, funded by the Kuwait Fund and Germany.
CMWU Receives a Delegation from the German Corporation for International Cooperation

CMWU received, at its main headquarters in Gaza city, a delegation from the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), including Dr. Thomas Reckel, Director of the Water Program in Palestine - Director of the Climate Change Adaptation Program, and Mr. Tobias Mohn, Advisor to the Water Program in Palestine, with the delegation attending a visit to the Gaza Strip aiming to learn about the water and sanitation services situation and discuss the possibility of cooperation through implementing joint programs between CMWU and GIZ.
During its visit, the delegation reviewed two projects, one being the Sheikh Radwan water reservoir construction project with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, which is part of an integrated project including constructing a desalination plant west of Gaza city, funded by the Kuwait Fund for Development and the Islamic Development Bank, and the delegation also visited the site of the Al-Muntar reservoir reconstruction project, which was completely destroyed during the last aggression on the Gaza Strip, where a new water reservoir with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters is currently being constructed, funded by the German government through the KfW institution.
The delegation was accompanied on its field visit by Eng. Ramadan Naeem, Director of the Projects Supervision Department at CMWU, Eng. Fareed Ashour, Director of the Central Sewage Project Management Unit, and Eng. Robin Al-Madhloum from the Projects Supervision Department, where the engineers explained the progress of work on the projects, as well as the obstacles CMWU faces during the implementation of its engineering projects, particularly the newly adopted mechanism for bringing in construction materials and electrical and mechanical equipment, which causes delays in completing projects on time.
The delegation concluded its visit with a meeting with Eng. Monther Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General, Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, Deputy Director-General for Policy and Planning, and Eng. Omar Shatat, Deputy Director-General for Technical Affairs, where a presentation was given on the most important components and facilities of water and sanitation services in the Gaza Strip, achievements, and performance standards, in addition to the most important challenges facing the water services sector.
For its part, the visiting delegation expressed its admiration for what it saw through the field visits of CMWU's achievements and performance, as well as the volume of works and services provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip despite the challenges facing the water sector, and the visiting delegation promised to provide support through a capacity-building and development program, which is implemented in the West Bank areas, with this program to be the first of the cooperation between CMWU and GIZ starting from the beginning of next year.
