CMWU Begins Operating the Western Rainwater Basin in Khan Younis Governorate
CMWU has begun operating the western rainwater basin in Khan Younis, which receives rainwater from Al-Amal basin, with the basin's construction recently completed, funded by the Japanese government through UNDP, and in cooperation with CMWU, at a cost of about $335,000.
The project was established on an area of 27 dunums and aims to receive rainwater inside the collection basin and then benefit from it in recharging the groundwater aquifer, in addition to preventing floods that could cause damage to residents and their properties.
It is worth noting that the basin is capable of absorbing 180,000 cubic meters of rainwater, with the project also including the laying of conveyance lines to deliver rainwater from surrounding areas into the basin.
It is worth noting that CMWU has, for years, separated the rainwater network system from the sewage network system in Khan Younis city, in order to prevent rainwater from mixing with sewage water, as part of its strategy to improve water and sanitation services and in cooperation with numerous donor institutions.
