CMWU Participates in a Workshop to Present and Discuss Performance Indicators for Water and Sanitation Service Providers.
CMWU participated in the activities of a workshop to present and analyze performance indicator data for water and sanitation service providers in the Gaza Strip, held by the Water Sector Regulatory Council in cooperation with the Palestinian Water Authority and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The Utility was represented by Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq, Eng. Firas Abu Nqira, Director of the Sanitation Projects Department at the Utility's headquarters in Rafah governorate, Eng. Zaidan Dahman, Director of the Subscriber Services Department at the Utility, and Mr. Nael Mushtaha, Director of the Financial Department at the Utility, with numerous parties concerned with and interested in the water sector participating in the workshop, foremost among them the Palestinian Water Authority.
The workshop opened with a speech by Eng. Rebhi Al-Sheikh, Deputy Chairman of the Palestinian Water Authority, on the legal status of the Water Sector Regulatory Council and its connection to the Water Law and the role and responsibilities entrusted to it in overseeing the efficiency of performance of water service providers at their various levels, including water utilities and the National Water Company planned to be established, and water providers in the private sector, stressing the necessity for water and sanitation service providers to reach the best levels and efficiency in performance, leading to quality in water and sanitation services in line with the Palestinian standards whose drafting was overseen by the Palestinian Water Authority.
In turn, Eng. Monther Shoblaq, the Utility's Director-General, spoke in his address about the importance of this workshop for water service providers in Palestine in general and CMWU in particular, in learning about the results of the performance indicator evaluation report, as one of the most important tools that help service providers identify areas of deficiency and begin corrective measures, as well as helping to continue developing and improving the service and planning for the future.
In the same context, Eng. Shoblaq stressed the importance of water service providers cooperating with the Water Regulatory Council through exchanging information and interacting with the programs presented to improve water and sanitation services.
This workshop comes amid increasing demand for water and threats affecting the sustainable development of all sectors, and aimed to further contribute to evaluating the overall performance of water service providers, and included several themes and interventions focused on the process of data collection and classification of water and sanitation service providers, and the mechanism for explaining and collecting operational data and cost data, leading up to the closing discussion of the most prominent results of the presentation.
