CMWU Begins Implementing the First Phase of the Emergency Reconstruction of the Sanitation System in Khan Younis City
Funded by UNICEF, CMWU, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality, began implementing the first phase of reconstructing the sanitation system in Khan Younis city.
The water utility, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality, assessed and surveyed the damage to the sanitation system in the city after the Israeli occupation's withdrawal from the city in March 2024, and prepared a plan to repair and restore the sanitation system to operation.
The first phase of this plan includes repairing the damaged pumping stations and their pressure lines, with the stations damaged by the Israeli occupation's ground operation being 6 stations: Al-Wafiya, Hisbat Al-Samak, Hamad, Al-Mujadala, Al-Maqaber, and Al-Qatatwa, in addition to damage to their pressure lines. This phase also includes assessing the gravity lines leading to these stations, with the gravity lines to be repaired in the coming phases.
It is worth noting that the contract for implementing the first phase has been signed between UNICEF and the contractor, under the direct supervision of the water utility, and the work site has been handed over to the contractor to begin implementing the project.
