CMWU has participated weekly in WASH Cluster meetings since the start of the war, revealing that water sector damage exceeded 210 million dollars by April.
CMWU has participated, since the first day of the war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, with the WASH Cluster in periodic weekly meetings, which aim to mobilize the efforts of all local and international institutions working in the water sector and funding sources, in order to continue providing water and sanitation services to our people in all areas of the Gaza Strip. This week's meeting was held inside the South desalination plant, where numerous topics were discussed, the most important being:
1. The scale of the damage sustained by infrastructure and water sector facilities as a result of the bombardment and ground incursions of the Israeli occupation, which reached, as of April, more than 210 million dollars.
2. The scarcity of fuel quantities received by the water utility for operating water and sanitation facilities.
3. The most prominent interventions implemented by the water utility with the help of all partners and with support from the Water Authority, which would increase water access and those related to repairing the damage.
At the end of the meeting, the water utility thanked all workers in the water sector and urged them on the necessity of mobilizing more funding to implement emergency interventions in all areas of the Gaza Strip.
