CMWU continues supplying Rafah with water despite the destruction of the Ibn Taymiyyah desalination plant during the ground incursion in May 2024.

Despite the ground military operation the Israeli occupation began on May 6, 2024, east of Rafah city, during which the occupation destroyed some water and sanitation facilities, most notably the Ibn Taymiyyah desalination plant, which used to supply about 100,000 people with desalinated water, CMWU's teams are still carrying out their duty of supplying citizens and displaced persons with water and sanitation services, by pumping water from the western wells, in addition to transporting and distributing desalinated water from the Emirati desalination plant with support from local and international partners, and continuing to operate the sewage pumping stations to prevent sewage flooding toward displaced persons' tents in the western area of Rafah.
