CMWU, in partnership with Action Against Hunger (ACF) and funded by the Canadian government, is working on installing solar power systems for a number of well-based desalination plants in various cities of the Gaza Strip, with the project including installing solar power systems for Al-Mashrou' desalination plant in Beit Lahia, Al-Hawz plant in Jabalia, Umm Al-Nasr and Khadija desalination plant in Beit Hanoun, north of the Gaza Strip, Al-Muntazah plant in Al-Maghazi camp, and Al-Zawayda desalination plant in the Central Governorate, in addition to Al-Ma'sara desalination plant in Abasan Al-Kabira.
This project aims to address the problems resulting from power outages, reduce operating costs, and operate those plants for the greatest possible number of hours, in order to provide drinking water to residents in the areas served by those plants.
