CMWU Continues Supplying Rafah Residents with Drinking Water
Since the first day the ceasefire agreement took effect, CMWU, in cooperation with UNICEF, has continued supplying residents with drinking water via its dedicated tankers.
These tankers are filled from the desalination plants managed and operated by the water utility, to ensure the provision of safe, healthy water to residents amid current conditions.
In the same context, CMWU affirms its full commitment to continuing its efforts to restore water and sanitation services to Rafah Governorate as quickly as possible, ensuring improved living conditions for residents. It also renews its call to the international community and supporting parties to strengthen cooperation and provide the necessary support to continue delivering these essential services amid current challenges.
This intervention comes amid the catastrophic situation Rafah Governorate is experiencing, as a result of the systematic Israeli targeting of water and sanitation facilities and networks during the eight-month Israeli incursion into the governorate, which caused these facilities to sustain severe damage, leading to their shutdown. Engineering teams are also working intensively to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the damage sustained by these facilities, ahead of carrying out the necessary maintenance works, aiming to restore their operation and ease the severity of the humanitarian crisis facing residents.
