CMWU continues its field efforts since the storm began yesterday evening to address the effects of heavy rainfall.
The Utility's crews are working to pump rainwater out of the displaced persons' tent camps in the Khan Younis Mawasi area, southern Gaza Strip, in addition to supplying the municipalities with mobile pumping units, as well as supplying additional vacuum trucks to strengthen readiness and rapid response in emergencies.
The Utility also rehabilitated a number of rainwater collection basins, maintained central pumping stations, and carried out a series of maintenance works in several areas to repair rainwater drainage networks and systems and improve their capacity to absorb large quantities of water during storms.
In a related context, the Utility is working in the areas of Gaza City and the north of the Strip through implementing heavy machinery rental and labor provision projects, with support from its international partners, aiming to strengthen the crews' capacity to deal with water accumulation and address infrastructure damage more effectively.
It is worth noting that infrastructure, water and sanitation facilities, and rainwater drainage systems have sustained significant and systematic destruction over the past two years, which has worsened the challenges facing the Utility and the municipalities in dealing with the current storms, and increased the scale of effort required to ensure the continued delivery of essential services to residents and displaced persons.
