CMWU Announces the Completion of the Al-Amal Rainwater Pumping Station Construction Project
With work continuing on the Al-Amal rainwater pond rehabilitation project in Al-Amal neighborhood in Khan Younis, CMWU announced the completion of the project's first phase - the rainwater pumping station construction phase - funded by the Islamic Development Bank at about $600,000.
The first phase's works included constructing the rainwater pumping station and installing three pumps with a capacity of 2,700 cubic meters per hour, in addition to constructing the pressure conveyance line from Al-Amal basin to the filtration basin near the treatment basins, 1,500 meters long.
The project aims to transfer excess rainwater from Al-Amal basin to the filtration basin in the event of a rise in the level of rainwater collected in Al-Amal pond basin during the winter season or in emergencies, in order to prevent floods that could cause damage to residents living near the station, and rainwater will also be benefited from by filtering it into the groundwater aquifer.
It is noted that work is underway to implement the project's second phase, rehabilitating the rainwater collection and filtration basin and the conveyance line, with joint funding from the Islamic Development Bank and the Arab Organization for the Reconstruction of Gaza.
