CMWU, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, organized a refresher course on emergency preparedness for workers in the water and sanitation departments at CMWU and the Gaza Strip's municipalities.
The course was opened by Eng. Omar Shatat, Deputy Executive Director for Operations and Maintenance, in the presence and with the participation of the Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross mission in the Gaza Strip.
The course aims to train the crews working in the water and sanitation sector on the emergency plan for working during crises and wars, strengthen the work of emergency teams, and provide the capabilities to secure a minimum level of water and sanitation services for residents in the Gaza Strip, by repairing damage to the infrastructure and operating the water and sanitation systems.
This course comes within the framework of CMWU's keenness to continue raising the administrative and professional level of workers in the water and sanitation sectors, and increasing the necessary state of readiness among workers at the Utility and the Strip's municipalities so they are fully prepared in the event of any emergencies or crises in the Gaza Strip, as this course represents a meeting point for all the expertise and skills required for field and logistical handling during emergencies, including the mechanisms of communication, coordination, and field intervention outlined in the emergency preparedness plan developed in 2015 by CMWU and the Water Authority in coordination with the Strip's municipalities and funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
For their part, the course's participants thanked CMWU and the International Committee of the Red Cross for organizing the training course and providing them with all the information theoretically and practically, which reflects the extent of their interest and keenness on the safety of workers in the water and sanitation departments and serving residents amid the repeated crises and wars on the Gaza Strip.
