CMWU Begins Implementing a Rainwater Collection Project in Rafah
CMWU, in cooperation with Rafah Municipality, began implementing the project to construct a rainwater collection basin, with the project including constructing a 1-kilometer concrete culvert to transport rainwater to the collection basin, on an area of 20 dunums near the Egyptian border.
Through this project, the basin will also be excavated and shaped to absorb 120,000 cubic meters of rainwater collected from Tal Al-Sultan neighborhood and other neighborhoods of Rafah governorate, over an area of 8 square kilometers, particularly as those areas are the ones affected by rainwater in the winter season, especially Al-Nujaili and Ubaida areas.
The project also includes constructing a pumping station with a capacity of 1,500 cubic meters/hour, with the transmission line 3 kilometers long, to pump the excess water to the sea.
The number of beneficiaries from the project is about 70,000 people, and the project's total cost is $2.3 million, funded by the American Agency for International Development through UNICEF.
