Two awareness workshops on the seawater desalination plant in Khan Younis and Rafah with the participation of mayors and civil society institutions.
CMWU Holds Two Awareness Workshops on the Seawater Desalination Plant
In the presence of a group of prominent figures, representatives of national factions, local civil society institutions, local bodies, neighborhood committees, and schools, CMWU, implemented by Flex Advertising Company, held two workshops titled "Community Awareness within the Framework of the Public Awareness Program for the Seawater Desalination Plant Project." CMWU had held one of the workshops on 11-10-2016 at the Light Beach hall on the Khan Younis seashore, in the presence of Eng. Yahya Al-Astal, Mayor of Khan Younis, Eng. Hatem Abu Al-Teif, Director of CMWU in Khan Younis governorate, and Eng. Fawaz Al-Alami, the project's consultant.
The workshop included an opening and welcoming of attendees, and a speech by the Mayor of Khan Younis welcoming the attendees, in which he praised the Municipality's relationship with CMWU and its role in providing water to residents, and affirmed the Municipality's dedication of effort to work on solving drinking water problems. Eng. Hatem Abu Al-Teif also gave a detailed explanation of the desalination plant project, while Eng. Fawaz Al-Alami introduced the community awareness campaign, and the workshop concluded with questions raised by participants and answered by the workshop's supervisors.
In a related context, the second workshop was also held on 18-10-2016 at the Vista hall in the center of Rafah city, in the presence of Mr. Subhi Abu Radwan, Mayor of Rafah, Eng. Fareed Sha'ban, Projects Director at CMWU, and Eng. Fawaz Al-Alami, the project's consultant.
For his part, Mr. Subhi Abu Radwan spoke about the Municipality's achievements in cooperation with CMWU, after which Eng. Fareed Sha'ban spoke about the project's stages, steps, and alternative solutions to problems related to the water issue, and explained on the display board the project's workflow and how water moves in each stage from the moment of drawing seawater to its arrival at consumers. Eng. Al-Alami concluded the workshop by talking about the awareness campaign and its activities and what had been achieved of events, noting at the outset that a water exhibition would be held at Al-Katiba grounds on Wednesday, 26-10-2016, and would continue for five days.
At the end of the workshop, the floor was opened for discussion and listening to attendees' questions and interventions, and the two workshops received the approval and admiration of the participants, who called for more awareness workshops involving all groups and segments of society, noting the importance and vitality of water projects and the necessity of involving the local community at all stages related to completing those projects.
