CMWU Continues Rehabilitating Rainwater Collection Facilities in Various Areas of the Strip

CMWU continued its efforts to clean and rehabilitate numerous rainwater collection facilities in various governorates of the Strip, funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross at an estimated amount of $115,000.
The emergency team at CMWU, in cooperation with the municipalities, is working to follow up on the rehabilitation and maintenance works that began before the last weather depression to reduce its effects, and the emergency team is still following up on its works of widening and cleaning rainwater collection facilities and removing rubble resulting from the last aggression, which was washed away by rainwater and led to the blockage of some drains.
Eng. Mahmoud Al-Qudra, Acting Director of the Sanitation and Rainwater Operation and Maintenance Department, said that CMWU carried out emergency interventions since the beginning of the last weather depression to preserve the safety of residents and their properties, and that emergency teams are still continuing their efforts in various areas, with the emergency team in Khan Younis city having continued, over the past week, cleaning Al-Amal pond of the accumulated silt and mud resulting from its erosion with rainwater, and Al-Qudra added that Al-Amal pond suffered great problems during previous weather depressions due to the insufficiency of the pumps that work to empty the pond of water, and that it needs more work.
In Wadi Al-Salqa, the team continued placing sand berms in front of residents' homes in the valley area, where Al-Qudra pointed out that those homes were flooded by rainwater flooding during the previous weather depression due to the blockage of numerous water paths towards the valley as a result of the presence of rubble resulting from the last aggression on the Strip.
The rehabilitation works also included widening the Al-Qarara pond and removing rubble in the Bani Suheila area, the eastern Khan Younis area, and Abasan Al-Jadida.
