CMWU Appeals to Donors for Urgent Intervention to Prevent a Humanitarian Catastrophe in Rafah City and the Eastern Villages in Khan Younis
The worsening electricity crisis over the past two weeks, in terms of the severe weakness of the electrical voltage arriving from the source (the Egyptian line), which amounts to a total outage of electricity to water and sanitation facilities, threatens a complete collapse of water and sanitation services. In this context, the Utility announces the possible halt of water facilities within 12 hours and sanitation facilities within 48 hours.
CMWU appeals to donor countries for rapid intervention to provide 6,500 liters of diesel daily, so it can provide water and sanitation services at their minimum levels in Rafah city and some eastern villages in Khan Younis governorate, and prevent a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe, as the Utility is unable to provide the required quantities of diesel, which prevents its ability to operate water and sanitation facilities and supply residents with the water necessary for their needs, as a temporary, urgent solution until practical solutions to the electricity crisis are found by the electricity company and the energy authority, so we can supply residents with water and prevent a catastrophe of sewage treatment plants overflowing.
