An urgent appeal from CMWU for fuel for water facility generators after the closure of the Rafah crossing, warning of a complete shutdown within 72 hours.

The Coastal Municipalities Water Utility appeals to all international and humanitarian organizations to urgently provide the necessary fuel to operate the electrical generators of WASH facilities.
In light of the current Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the military operations in various areas of the Gaza Strip, and recently the ground invasion of Rafah Governorate and the closure of all crossing points since 3 days ago, which resulted in a severe shortage of fuel supply necessary for operating water and sanitation facilities, as most of these facilities have been operated by electrical generators since October 7, 2023, especially water wells and desalination plants which feed the residents and displaced people in the southern and northern governorates.
CMWU raises this appeal to all international organizations to urgently exert all their efforts to provide the necessary fuel supplies to avoid a complete stoppage of most operational WASH facilities within the next 72 hours.
CMWU would like to draw your attention that the stoppage of fuel supplies will lead to a significant reduction in water supplies in various areas of the Gaza Strip and a shortage in drinking water supply through its water tankers for most shelter centers and tents of displaced people.
CMWU also confirms that the stoppage of fuel may lead to the complete collapse of this important sector and the inability of CMWU and the municipalities to provide the minimum level of water and sanitation services, which would exacerbate the difficult humanitarian conditions in all Gaza governorates.
