CMWU's Board of Directors met with His Excellency the Chairman of the Palestinian Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghunaim and his accompanying delegation, at CMWU's main headquarters in Al-Zahra city, central Gaza Strip, with this meeting attended by CMWU's Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan, the members of CMWU's Board of Directors, CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq, and the Deputy Director-General for Policies and Planning Eng. Maher Al-Najjar.
This meeting aims to review and discuss a number of important issues aimed at uniting efforts to repair the damage to the water and sanitation sector left by the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and the working mechanism and emergency interventions required to be carried out urgently, with the two sides affirming the importance of cooperation in order to repair the urgent damage and carry out the operation of vital water and sanitation facilities.
The meeting also included a presentation of the most important outputs of the emergency plan during the recent aggression, which relied on equipping 13 emergency warehouses, to store all the materials needed for maintenance operations and purchasing heavy machinery and equipment, in addition to maintaining and equipping old machinery, pumps, and generators and identifying the locations of water and sanitation facilities and sharing them with all parties to prevent or reduce the chances of them being targeted.
A brief presentation was also given of the draft damage assessment report prepared by CMWU in coordination and cooperation with the municipalities and under the supervision and follow-up of the Palestinian Water Authority.
In turn, the Chairman of the Water Authority praised, during the meeting, the performance of the technical crews affiliated with CMWU and all the municipalities of the Gaza Strip and their continuous work for the urgent repair of the damage sustained by various water and sanitation networks and facilities in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli aggression, which contributed to the return of water and sanitation services and restarting the operation of most vital and strategic facilities despite the continuing bombardment and the prolonged power outage due to being targeted by the Israeli occupation.
Eng. Mazen Ghunaim also announced, at the end of the meeting, the beginning of work on the program to complete CMWU's institutional development, by working on establishing a roadmap to be agreed upon between CMWU, the Water Authority, and the municipalities, aiming to transform CMWU into a regional water utility in accordance with the Water Law.
