CMWU teams carried out emergency maintenance works at several desalination plants in the Central Gaza Governorate, in cooperation with the municipalities within whose areas these plants are located. The works are part of CMWU’s ongoing efforts to maintain the continuity of water facility operations and ensure the provision of safe drinking water to residents and displaced people.
The works included emergency maintenance of the mobile desalination plant installed inside the Abu Salim Reservoir in Deir Al-Balah. CMWU had previously installed the plant inside the reservoir to enhance drinking water supplies and serve residents and displaced people in the surrounding areas. The plant has a production capacity of 10 cubic meters per day.
CMWU teams also carried out emergency maintenance works at the Al-Shaqaqi and Al-Farouq desalination plants in Nuseirat Refugee Camp. The Al-Shaqaqi plant has a production capacity of 120 cubic meters per day, while the Al-Farouq plant has a production capacity of 30 cubic meters per day. The works aimed to ensure the continued operation of the plants and maintain water production.
These plants serve residents and displaced people in the surrounding areas and contribute to meeting their minimum drinking water needs, helping alleviate their hardship amid the difficult humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
These works are part of CMWU’s efforts to respond rapidly to emergency faults, maintain the readiness of water facilities, and ensure the continuity of drinking water services despite the significant operational challenges facing the water sector, particularly the severe shortage of spare parts and operational materials required for maintenance, thereby maintaining services at the minimum possible level.
