CMWU, with Emirati support, began implementing the Emirati water transmission line to west Khan Younis Mawasi, the largest water project in Gaza during the war.
CMWU, in partnership with Operation Al-Fares Al-Shahm 3, and with generous support from the United Arab Emirates, began implementing the Emirati desalinated water transmission line project from the desalination plant on the Egyptian side to west Khan Younis Mawasi, the largest water project currently being implemented in the Gaza Strip, aiming to secure desalinated drinking water needs for all residents and displaced persons in the densely populated Mawasi area, which suffers from an absence of drinking water sources, located west of Khan Younis Governorate and parts of northwest Rafah.
The new transmission line extends 6.7 km alongside the coastal Al-Rasheed Street from the Egyptian border to the Al-Nas Street area in central Khan Younis Governorate near the seashore, to transmit and pump drinking water from the seawater desalination plant established by the United Arab Emirates, which was previously operated in February 2024 on Egyptian territory to serve displaced persons in Rafah until May 2024. The new transmission line will enable the desalination plant to resume operation again with a larger production capacity of up to 10,000 cubic meters daily, to provide a safe, healthy water lifeline serving hundreds of thousands of residents and displaced persons in Khan Younis Mawasi, who suffer from severe thirst as a result of the scarcity and absence of water in the areas where they are present.
