CMWU Receives the Management and Operation of the Sewage Treatment Plant in Khan Younis

CMWU began its procedures to receive the sewage treatment plant in Al-Fukhari, east of Khan Younis governorate, south of the Gaza Strip, in order to begin managing and operating it in accordance with the agreements signed on the matter, after a year of its operation by the project's implementing company under the supervision of "UNDP", the body that supervised the implementation of this vital and important project for the residents and environment of Khan Younis governorate, with the plant's operating team formed, consisting of CMWU, Khan Younis Municipality, and Bani Suheila Municipality, to take over and supervise the management and operation of that plant in accordance with what was agreed upon between all relevant parties and under the auspices of the Water Authority and the Ministry of Local Government.
This plant and its other components — the filtration basins, transmission lines, and the rehabilitation of the Central pumping station in Khan Younis — were constructed with joint funding from the Japanese government and the Kuwait Fund for Development through the Islamic Development Bank, managed by UNDP, in cooperation and coordination with the Palestinian Water Authority and CMWU.
It is worth noting that the sewage treatment plant and its associated filtration basins, located east of Khan Younis governorate, are considered among the strategic projects that will effectively work to upgrade the sewage system, and will contribute to improving the health and environmental situation for the residents of Khan Younis governorate, by ending residents' suffering from the cesspit problem and benefiting from the treated water by injecting it into the groundwater aquifer and reusing it in the agricultural sector.
