Deir al-Balah - CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq conducted an inspection tour to review the progress of work on the second phase of the seawater desalination plant construction project in Deir al-Balah, with CMWU continuing to implement the works of the second phase of the seawater desalination plant project south of Deir al-Balah, central Gaza Strip, funded by the American Agency for International Development USAID.
This phase comes after the completion of the plant's first phase, which produces 2,600 cubic meters of desalinated water daily, while the second phase's production capacity will reach 3,400 cubic meters of desalinated water daily, bringing the plant's total production, in both its first and second phases, to 6,000 cubic meters daily.
Work on the second phase is accompanied by numerous construction and civil works at the desalination plant, as well as electrical works, and completing the water transmission line from the sea to the plant.
During his tour, Eng. Monther Shoblaq affirmed that despite the difficult circumstances the Strip is suffering from and the continuous closure of the crossings, efforts continue and work is proceeding at full speed to complete this major vital project, which will lead to improving the quality and quantity of water provided to thousands of residents in all areas of Deir al-Balah, praising the scale of the achievement and the high quality of performance, thanking all the crews working on the project across their various specializations and tasks for their great and distinguished effort.
Shoblaq also noted that this project, in addition to the desalination plant project for Gaza city, currently underway in Al-Sudaniya area, will have, alongside the other desalination plants completed by CMWU, a great impact on improving water service in all governorates of the Gaza Strip, and will contribute to advancing the wheel of development and easing the burden on the groundwater aquifer, which represents the sole source of water in the Strip.
