CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq conducted a field tour during which he visited all the municipalities east of Khan Younis governorate, accompanied on this tour by Mr. Mamdouh Al-Ghazali, Deputy Director-General for Financial and Administrative Affairs, and Mr. Ayman Abu Zuraiba, meeting during this tour with all the mayors, in addition to a number of municipal council members and various departments in those municipalities.
This tour comes in continuation of the previous tours conducted by CMWU's Director-General to the Gaza Strip's municipalities, amid the escalating crises the Gaza Strip is suffering from, the latest of which was the sudden shutdown of the power generation plant, with this tour aiming to discuss mechanisms and ways to strengthen cooperation between CMWU and the municipalities in order to continue improving water and sanitation services, as well as discussing the impact of the power plant shutdown on those services and ways to mitigate the effects of that crisis, particularly after the operation of recently constructed facilities such as seawater desalination plants and sewage treatment plants and the need to increase the quantity and number of hours of electricity supply, with this tour also aiming to learn about the most important problems and challenges facing the municipalities in Khan Younis governorate in order to work to overcome them, the most important of which is the need to develop the sewage system in order to serve the residents of those areas, particularly amid the beginning of operation of the sewage treatment plant east of Khan Younis governorate.
In turn, the mayors welcomed the visit of CMWU's Director-General and his accompanying delegation, praising CMWU's great role in developing the water and sanitation sector in Khan Younis governorate, in addition to the high level of coordination in work and the rapid response of CMWU's various crews to the needs of residents in those areas, particularly in emergency situations.
