Implementation Begins on the Sanitation Pumping Station Maintenance Project in Khan Younis City
CMWU, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality and in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross, began implementing the emergency project to maintain and rehabilitate the main sewage pumping stations in Khan Younis city, southern Gaza Strip, which sustained severe damage as a result of the Israeli war and the extensive destruction it left in the service delivery system and various vital sectors.
The project includes maintenance works on the sanitation station located in the Al-Wafiya and Al-Akhras area, in addition to the Hamad City pumping station, both of which sustained major destruction that led to their complete shutdown.
The project also includes repairing and maintaining the civil, electrical, and mechanical installations, ensuring the restoration of both stations to operation, which will contribute to reducing the health hazards that have spread around those areas.
The sanitation station located in the Al-Wafiya and Al-Akhras area serves a number of residents reaching about (120,000) people in the Al-Katiba, Al-Mahatta, Al-Satar, Al-Amal, Al-Muaskar, and the new neighborhoods, and Hamad City, through the pumping station located in the neighborhood, in addition to a number of other areas.
