Beginning Implementation of the Project to Drill a Water Well at the Main Groundwater Reservoir in Rafah

Funded by the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) through Oxfam, in partnership with the Palestinian Environmental Friends (PEF) Association, CMWU began implementing the project to drill a water well at the main groundwater reservoir in Rafah governorate, south of the Gaza Strip, in order to strengthen the water sources feeding the reservoir, which leads to improving the quantities of water pumped into the distribution networks in the areas the reservoir supplies with water, as this reservoir serves residents in the Al-Brazil, Al-Salam neighborhood, Al-Jineina, and Yibna areas, in addition to the city center, numbering about 140,000 people in Rafah, with this reservoir considered one of the most important main water sources in Rafah city.
It is worth noting that CMWU had, during the past few days, begun drilling three new wells in various areas of Rafah city, with drilling of those wells having begun in the Saudi Neighborhood 3, the western Rafah area, and Al-Shabora neighborhood, aiming to ease the water crisis in Rafah city.
