Rehabilitation Begins on the North Al-Wakala Well in Khan Younis City to Strengthen Water Supply
CMWU, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality and the Friends of the Environment Association, began rehabilitation works on the North Al-Wakala well in Khan Younis city, as part of ongoing efforts to improve water services and meet the needs of residents and displaced persons in the western areas.
The well serves the western neighborhoods of the city, feeding the Al-Buraq reservoir affiliated with Khan Younis Municipality, which in turn pumps water to a number of neighborhoods, including the Japanese neighborhood, the Emirati neighborhood, the Dutch neighborhood, the Western Camp, in addition to Al-Amal neighborhood.
The rehabilitation works will help strengthen the water sources feeding the area and improve pumping efficiency and the continuity of supply, particularly given the growing demand for water resulting from population density and the large numbers of displaced persons.
It is worth noting that CMWU still faces major challenges threatening the continuity of operating water and sanitation facilities, given the acute shortage of spare parts and maintenance supplies, including lubricating oils and generator spare parts, alongside the essential materials needed to operate water and sanitation services, which hinders efforts to maintain the continuity of service delivery at the minimum possible level.
