As part of the works of the project to develop the seawater desalination plant south of the Gaza Strip, funded by the European Union through UNICEF in cooperation with CMWU and the Palestinian Water Authority, the connection of a permanent electric power line to the seawater desalination plant south of the Gaza Strip has been completed, to ensure the plant operates at full capacity and for the greatest possible number of hours.
The plant's expansion works aim to raise its production capacity to 20,000 cubic meters per day, to become capable of serving residents in wide areas of Khan Younis and Rafah cities, numbering about 250,000 people.
It is worth noting that the seawater desalination plants located along the Gaza Strip's coastal strip effectively work to ease the water crisis and improve the water service provided to residents in various areas of the Gaza Strip, in addition to contributing to easing the burden on the groundwater aquifer, which represents the sole source of water in the Strip.
