Completion of Extending Rainwater Drainage Lines in Khan Younis

CMWU and Khan Younis Municipality announced the completion of the infrastructure works related to the project to construct the main drainage line located in Al-Wafaa area, funded by the State of Kuwait through UNICEF at a cost of $1.5 million.
Khan Younis Municipality's Mayor and member of CMWU's Board of Directors Dr. Alaa Al-Din Al-Batta affirmed the importance of the project in putting an end to residents' decades-long suffering, noting that "Al-Wafaa" area is considered one of the lowest-lying areas in Khan Younis, with rainwater arriving to it in very large quantities from all parts of the governorate, which necessitated implementing the project all at once to overcome the imminent risks during the winter season and put in place radical solutions to end the problem.
In turn, the Director of the Projects Supervision Department at CMWU Eng. Robin Al-Madhloum explained that the project will transport rainwater from the various areas where concrete culverts and pipes have been extended, reaching the main collection pool in Al-Amal neighborhood, where it will be injected into the ground, in order to strengthen the groundwater aquifer and end the rainwater problem that residents of Al-Wafaa area had suffered from.
Eng. Al-Madhloum thanked UNICEF, Khan Younis Municipality, as well as the cooperation of the "GVC" consulting office and Abna Shanan Contracting Company for their efforts in the success of the project and overcoming the obstacles facing it due to the surrounding conditions.
It is worth noting that the infrastructure works were fully completed, including implementing a rainwater drainage line of concrete pipes of various diameters from (60-80) cm, with a total length of (1,100) meters, and constructing a concrete box with a total length of (1,100) meters, with dimensions ranging between (220-150) cm, and a height ranging between (160-100) cm, in addition to supplying and installing (21) rainwater drain units of various lengths, noting that the project extends from Al-Amal neighborhood's pool in the north to Al-Khulafa Mosque in Khan Younis camp in the south, passing through the Al-Katiba, Al-Wafaa, and Al-Mukhayyam areas and the old Al-Hilal Street in Al-Amal neighborhood, noting that work is proceeding at full speed to complete the rehabilitation of the streets.
