CMWU, with support from Oxfam, completed the rehabilitation of the Sheikh Radwan 10 and 11 wells in Gaza (180 cubic meters per hour each), to serve 150,000 people.
CMWU, with the participation of a delegation from Oxfam, conducted an inspection tour to follow up on the progress of the rehabilitation project for the Sheikh Radwan (10 and 11) wells in Gaza City, after completing the comprehensive rehabilitation works on both.
This project is being implemented as part of joint efforts to improve water services in Gaza City, particularly after the two wells sustained severe damage during the recent military operations in the area, which caused them to go out of service for a long period.
The Oxfam delegation included Ms. Mirjam van Dorssen, Head of the Oxfam Office in the occupied Palestinian territories, along with a number of the organization's engineers.
For his part, Eng. Omar Shatat, CMWU Deputy Executive Director, valued Oxfam's support and its ongoing efforts to implement vital projects that contribute to improving water and sanitation services, affirming the importance of these projects in improving the services provided to residents, particularly given the difficult conditions imposed by the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the significant resulting damage to water facilities and infrastructure.
The project's works included the full rehabilitation of the wells, including mechanical and electrical maintenance, and the installation of new pumps and control systems to ensure their continued efficient operation.
Each of the two wells produces about 180 cubic meters per hour, and together they serve about 150,000 residents of the Sheikh Radwan area and western Gaza areas, contributing to strengthening the stability of water service and improving its reach to residents amid the difficult conditions facing the Strip.
