CMWU participated in the opening activities of the expansion project for the seawater desalination plant in Deir al-Balah city, central Gaza Strip, and the start of operation of the desalination unit constructed to produce 3,400 cubic meters daily, bringing the plant's total production capacity to 6,000 cubic meters daily, to serve the residents of Deir al-Balah and Al-Zawayda cities, at a cost of about $18 million, funded by USAID through the Palestinian Water Authority.
This took place under the patronage of His Excellency the Chairman of the Palestinian Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghunaim, with the participation of CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq, Deir al-Balah Municipality's Mayor Dr. Emad Al-Jarou, a number of representatives of local organizations and bodies in the Central Governorate, and CMWU's Deputy Directors-General Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, Eng. Omar Shatat, and Mr. Mamdouh Al-Ghazali.
In turn, Eng. Monther Shoblaq welcomed the attendees, affirming the importance of this project for the residents of Deir al-Balah city, as this project contributes to providing high-quality desalinated water, which is pumped to water reservoirs in Deir al-Balah city to be mixed with water from some wells, which improves the quality of water provided to residents and eases the burden on the groundwater aquifer.
In turn, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim affirmed the importance of operating this unit to increase the quantity of desalinated water produced and supply most residents of Deir al-Balah and Al-Zawayda cities with high-quality water, which will have a positive impact on residents' lives and health, and that the Water Authority and the Palestinian government will continue implementing various water and sanitation projects for the Gaza Strip, aiming to improve the services provided to the Strip's residents.
In turn, Dr. Emad Al-Jarou affirmed that the desalination plant will have a great impact on improving the water service for the residents of Deir al-Balah city, particularly amid the current conditions, and thanked everyone in charge of this important project.
