CMWU, in partnership with UNICEF, inaugurated a desalination plant at the Taha Hussein School shelter center in Rafah, serving 400 families.
In order to secure the drinking water needs of the residents of the Gaza Strip in various displacement and shelter areas, the water utility, in partnership with UNICEF, inaugurated a desalination plant at the Taha Hussein School shelter center in Rafah city, southern Gaza Strip, with this plant serving 400 families at that center.
A delegation from UNICEF headed by Ms. Jean Gough, UNICEF's Special Representative in Palestine, participated in the inauguration, and was received by CMWU Deputy Executive Director for Technical Affairs Eng. Omar Shatat and a number of engineers, in addition to representatives of the shelter center.
The water utility's engineering and technical teams installed, operated, calibrated, and tested the advanced, portable, bag-based mobile desalination unit, which has a capacity of 16 cubic meters per day.
It is worth noting that this advanced, unique plant, entering service for the first time in Palestine, is capable of desalinating any type of saline water, even seawater, without the use of chemicals, and operates entirely on solar power.
