CMWU handed over the Phase Two work site of the solar power plant at the treatment plant east of Khan Younis to the implementing company.
In preparation for beginning the implementation of the project to construct the solar power plant at the Central Sewage Treatment Plant east of Khan Younis governorate, CMWU, in coordination with Khan Younis Municipality, handed over the work site for the Phase Two solar power plant construction project, to the project's implementing company, the "Qawar and Al-Khaissi" companies consortium, in the presence of representatives from CMWU, Khan Younis Municipality, the project's implementing company, in addition to the EMCC consulting office.
It is worth noting that Phase Two of constructing the solar power plant at the treatment plant is funded by the Kuwait Fund for Development in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank. The project includes constructing a solar power plant at the Central Treatment Plant east of Khan Younis governorate with a capacity of 3.7 megawatts, in order to operate the treatment plant for the greatest possible number of hours, particularly amid the continuing electricity outage crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The sewage treatment plant in Khan Younis governorate and its associated filtration basins, located east of the governorate, are considered among the strategic projects that have effectively contributed to upgrading the sewage collection and treatment system, and improving the health and environmental situation in Khan Younis governorate, by ending the suffering of a large proportion of the governorate's residents from the cesspit problem, and also ending the pollution of the seashore and benefiting from the treated water by injecting it into the groundwater aquifer and reusing it in the agricultural sector.
The quantities of sewage arriving at the plant are treated with high efficiency, with a removal rate of about 99%, and then filtered to the groundwater aquifer through the filtration basins established in the Al-Fukhari area, in addition to constructing a pipeline to discharge the treated water toward the sea for use in emergencies.
